AW "I am confident we can achieve now! I’m happy that Gervinho scored, I’m happy that other players scored, and that RVP did as well, It’s good for the morale of the team! I have faith in Chamakh!” RVP “Santos reminds me of Roberto Carlos!” Wolves want Frimpong on-loan! Parejo, Monzon Linked!

  • Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger feels they're back in the title race after victory over Wigan Athletic.
Wenger is also confident of a top four finish now.

He said: "I am confident we can achieve it. It looks like all the teams up front will win comfortably. It will be down to the teams who are the most consistent. When you look at the scores today from the teams who are in front of us like Chelsea, Tottenham and man City - they all won with two, three, four goals difference. That means it will be down to who is the most consistent out there."
  • Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was delighted seeing Gervinho on the scoresheet in victory overWigan Athletic.
Wenger was quizzed last week if he was concerned with the Ivorian's lack of goals before yesterday.

"I am happy that Gervinho scored, I am happy that we scored goals of course. But I am also happy that other players scored, and that Robin van Persie did as well. It is good for the morale of the team and overall I know they can do it.
  • Arsenal skipper Robin van Persie says Andre Santos reminds him of Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos.
Van Persie has been impressed with Santos’ impact on the Arsenal first team, likening him to former Brazil international Roberto Carlos.

“When he first arrived I remember him saying he’d need five or six games to get his fitness up before things would really kick off for him,” the striker said.

“It was true - he’s grown stronger and fitter in every single game, and what I really like about him is his confidence on the ball.

“He’s firstly a left-back, but he’s so much more than that - he gets the ball to his feet, plays one-twos, looks after the ball with style and plays a bit like Roberto Carlos.

“He knows how to choose between holding his defensive position and going forward - and when he goes, he is committed. I love his play.

“I remember a couple of weeks ago playing not just a one-two but a one-two-three-four with him, and that’s the kind of thing you enjoy.

It’s a joy to play with him because he loves football, loves finding solutions, and I don’t really see full-backs as confident as Andre in other teams.

“We all feel that when he has the ball he will do something useful with it. You know that, even if he is faced with a couple of guys, he’ll choose the right thing.”
  • Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists he's not lost faith in Marouane Chamakh.
The Morocco international has been linked with a January exit.

“The most difficult thing for a player is first the competition he faces – and Chamakh has faced the competition of Van Persie,” said Wenger.

“Secondly, if you do not play regularly, every time you play you have to be outstanding.

“He is more a player who works for the side, so he needs the confidence. He is not a guy who does something special, he is more a guy who needs to be in there every week. That’s why I believe he suffers a bit from the lack of chances he gets.”
  • Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger won't play the kids against Olympiacos.
The Gunners have already qualified as group winners.

So boss Wenger will rest attacking players like Theo Walcott, Robin van Persie and Aaron Ramsey, who he believes are showing signs of fatigue.

Young hopefuls like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Francis Coquelin and Emmanuel Frimpong will get a chance.

But Wenger wants to avoid an embarrassing defeat. So he will assess the fitness of defenders Thomas Vermaelen, Per Mertersacker and Andre Santos before deciding if they will play.
  • Wolves are ready to take Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong on-loan.
The 19-year-old midfielder is a key part of Arsene Wenger’s plans, but theArsenal manager is keen for Frimpong to gain first-team experience and will listen to offers for him to go to another Premier League club next month.

Frimpong looks certain to figure in a shadow Arsenal team in the Champions League againstOlympiacos in Athens on Tuesday. Arsenal are already guaranteed a place in the knockout stages of the competition as group winners and Wenger will use the game to make full use of his squad.

But following last week’s exit from the Carling Cup against Manchester City, Frimpong’s first-team chances will be restricted.

Wolves boss Mick McCarthy is known to be a huge admirer of the Ghanaian and the indications are that in the next four weeks he will get his man on a six-month loan deal.
  • Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is ready to offload goalkeeper Manuel Almunia.
Wenger admitted he will allow out-of-favour Almunia to leave in January.

The Spanish keeper would be out of contract next summer anyway.
  • Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has played down talk of buying Mexican striker Marco Fabian.
Chivas star Fabian's family insist in the Mexican press that he is on the brink of joining Arsenal in a £6m move in January.

Fabian even insists he wants a rivalry with Manchester United's Javier Hernandez in the Premier League.

But when asked if he was interested, Wenger said today: "No. It is just an agent who wants to sell a player."

Fabian has been involved in controversy as he shared a bad taste goal celebration, pretending with a team mate to shoot someone in the head.

Furthermore, Fabian was also suspended from the national set-up by the Mexican FA along with six other team mates following a wild party allegedly involving prostitutes.
  • Arsenal striker Carlos Vela struck a wonder goal for Real Sociedad on the weekend.
The Mexico international is beginning to impress on-loan at Real and struck a stunning overhead strike in their clash with Malaga.

Vela's action is being compared in the Spanish press with Mexican and Real Madrid legend Hugo Sanchez.
  • Dani Parejo admits he's ready to leave Valencia.
The former Real Madrid midfielder has struggled for minutes at Los Che and his representatives have held talks with Arsenal ahead of the January market.

"I feel privileged to be a player of Valencia," he said.

"But at 22, I need to play - whether it is here or with another team."
  • Arsenal are tracking Nice defender Luciano Fabian Monzon.
The Argentine is also being watched by Germany's Schalke.

Monzon, 24, has been impressive for Nice in the French League and has attracted interest from several big clubs across Europe.

Arsene Wenger is keen to bolster his defence after missing out on a deal for Bolton defender Gary Cahill during the summer.
