- Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has urged the club not to unravel after their humiliation at AC Milan.
Wenger must lift his squad again for what is now a crucial FA Cup fifth-round tie at Sunderland on Saturday ahead of the north-London derby with Tottenham.
Wenger said: "The season is not finished. We have a big game on Saturday and it is a good opportunity to show we have character and mental strength, that we can respond after such a shocking defeat.
"You could blame and blame, but we have to stick together and win the next game.
"A big disappointment like that has consequences on your belief.
"We have a lot of work to regroup and not a lot of time to prepare for Saturday's game, when we need to show something completely different."
- Arsene Wenger branded Arsenal as "shocking" after their 4-0 trouncing at Champions League opponents AC Milan.
The Gunners were never in the match Kevin-Prince Boateng fired the Italians ahead on 15 minutes with a sublime strike, before a brace by ex-Manchester City forwardRobinho and a penalty from the impressive Zlatan Ibrahimovic completed a miserable night for the Gunners, who suffered their worst European defeat.
"It was a shocking result and a shocking performance. It was of those nights you ever forget. It is our worst night in Europe. We were punished and deservedly do," said Wenger.
"The result is a disaster.
"Were never in the game we were very poor offensive and defensively.
"There was not one moment in the 90 minutes we were really in the game, and it was always the same problem, balls over the top and we were well beaten.
"It is difficult to analyse, so it is better not to talk too much, to analyse with a cooler header and regroup for the next game."
- Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny admits AC Milan were simply too good last night.
Szczesny admitted Arsenal were outclassed.
"We didn't have the best of games but you have to give credit to Milan," Szczesny told ITV.
"They punished us on every occasion and scored some quality goals. They deserved to win. It's very disappointing day for us and hopefully we can pick ourselves up and challenge them in the second leg."
Szczesny insisted the players had gone out with the right attitude.
"I think everyone was up for it, and they knew how to play the game, but they were the better team on the night and that's the story of the day," he said.
"I don't think it's a surprise. They have some of the best attacking players in the world. When you're playing against Ibra, he's up there as the best striker we've playing against. They had quality up front and used it very well.
"We have to keep fighting, pick ourselves up, get the confidence back and challenge in the other competitions and in the second leg of this tie too."
- Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admits their Champions League campaign is over after their thrashing at AC Milan.
He accepted hopes of European glory have been all but extinguished.
Wenger said: "We don't play in dream world. There is maybe a two per cent or five per cent (chance) statistically.
"We have to show a completely different performance and you never know, but, you have to say, realistically, we are out of the competition."
- New York Red Bulls striker Thierry Henry will push to return to Arsenal next season.
There is one absolute certainty in football, it is that Henry will want to come back again next year to add yet another chapter to his legend.
His American club New York Red Bulls might not be quite so keen, but what Henry wants he usually gets.
- Former Arsenal stars were shocked by their thrashing at AC Milan last night.
Not even Arsenal legend Thierry Henry could make an impact after being introduced as a substitute at half-time.
Former Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn rapped: "The experienced players didn't turn up for the manager and seriously let him down.
"The players should be disgusted with themselves. Confidence has been shot to pieces."
Ex-Gunners skipper Patrick Vieira tweeted: "There was a lack of leadership."
- Arsenal legend George Graham has likened Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to Manchester United star Wayne Rooney.
Having seen Oxlade-Chamberlain emerge as a key player for Arsenal in recent weeks, Graham reckons the 18-year-old is set for similar success.
“He reminds me so much of Wayne Rooney when he was first at Everton," the former Gunners boss said. “He’s got a lovely barrel chest, he looks strong, he looks like a 25-year-old and he’s got ability.
“When he is on the ball it is just a pleasure to watch him. I think he’s going to be sensational. He is that good. If he can get some more games under his belt for Arsenal this season, why not take him [to the European Championship]?”
